illuminate your world

From ambient to task lighting, we’re always on the look out for new ways to illuminate our space. We found three designers that are lighting up the natural world by bring the outdoors inside in a fresh, modern way:

The Pendant Photograph
Andrea Claire's pendant photographs are covered in linen, giving them an almost etheral quality. Her subjects range from the natural to the abstract ($75-400). Try this HauteIdea: Check out the book Photocraft for step-by-step how-to's on turning your own images into objects d'art.

The Moss Lamp
The Moss Lamp (₤350) by Sasha Sykes and her London design team, Farm 21, is created from linchen sourced from her family’s farm in County Carlow Ireland and suspended in acrlic. Farm 21 is best known their ‘unique take on the natural world.’ They create bespoke and one-of-a-kind contemporary rural pieces of art. Try this HauteIdea: You can get this look on the cheap by using an old lamp and small, natural objects. Look for fillable collector lamps, which peaked in popularity during the 70s, at your local flea market. The key to this look is small, uniform objects. Try mitra mitra shells for a chic, repetitive pattern.

Bejeweled Chandeliers
Marjorie Skoras creastes custom chandeliers and sconces for her Hollywood Hills clients. Adorned with natural objects, like coral, turquoise and semi-precious stones, her bespoke pieces feel more like jewelry for the home. Prices upon request. Try this HauteIdea: You can transform an old chandelier with paint and beads. Step one: prime your lamp with a paint primer. Allow to dry. Step two: spray paint desired color (tip: paint Christmas hooks, as well. They work well to hang beads and jewels). Allow to dry. Step three: hang strands of beads. To get this look, make sure your beads and adornements are the same color as the lamp or chandelier.
